Vintage piece of Indigenous art, really fabulous piece and a superb addition to any native art collection:
Model Totem pole, 27" tall, by late Kwakiulth Indigenous artist Sam Henderson from the Nakwaktok Village, Canada's pacific Northwest Coast in British Columbia
Thunderbird is shown on top of the Killer Whale which is on top of the human, holding a copper shield. The totem is fully hand carved, hand painted and designed by Sam Henderson, signed underneath the base. It's estimated to be from the 1960's/early 70's. Even though it's old, it's in absolutely great condition with some very minor losses on the paint.
Deep carving lines, very detailed and clean painting - just a traditional, wonderful piece of art and history. Sam used red cedar.
Measurements: 27 1/2" tall, wingspan is 12", 3" deep
