What a fantastic piece!

Model TOTEM POLE, stunning quality, a true example of excellent craftsmanship.

Depicting the Thunderbird on top of the Killer Whale over the Tsonoqua - hand carved out of solid yellow cedar wood.

Very vibrant and very clean carving and painting. This piece is not signed which is not at all unusual for an old piece. It originates from the Quatsino Village. The Quatsino First Nation is the First Nations band government of the Gwat'sinux subgroup of the Kwakwaka'wakw peoples. Quatsino First Nation (Chief James Nelson) is located on the northern tip of Vancouver Island. Quatsino is a small hamlet of 91 people located on Quatsino Sound in Northern Vancouver Island, Canada, only accessible by boat or float plane. Its nearest neighbour is Coal Harbour, to the east, about 20 minutes away by boat, and Port Alice, to the south, about 40 minutes away by boat.

This Totem Pole came from a large Collection of First Nations Art pieces, acquired from a Lady, who's husband passed away recently. Her husband was a lumberjack and over the years worked very close with First Nations Artists. This totem was traded for cedar wood - and since it was meant to stay in their private collection for a long time, the artist was not asked to sign. However, the Artists name is known to be Joe Johnny who lived most of his life in Quatsino Village

It's in absolutely incredible condition.

Measurements: 19" total height to top of wings, 16" wingspan, the totem itself is 3" x 3"
