Beautiful Lidded Bentwood Box by Kwakiutl Indigenous Artist Sarah Daniels (nee Robertson) from Kingcome Inlet, BC

Steam bent, hand carved, hand painted 

Carved on all 4 sides, signed underneath - a fabulous piece!! Showing a cute little winking Owl. Sarah always likes to leave some pencil marks in her boxes, they can easy be erased but I'll leave that up to you. Many collectors love them since they give the piece special character. It just proofs and shows the craftsmanship and work that was put into it. 

Measurements: 6" high, lid and base measure 5" x 5" 

Bentwood boxes are a traditional item made by the First Nations of the Pacific Northwest Coast, including parts of southern Alaska, western British Columbia and southern Washington, or more specific: people including the Haida, Gitxsan, Tlingit, Tsimshian, Sugpiaq, Unangax, Yupík, Inupiaq and Coast Salish. The Bentwood Box is a uniquely fabricated container in which a single plank of wood is grooved where corners are desired. The wood is made pliable with heat and moisture and bent to form a four-sided shape.
