20" Circular Panel Raven Moon and Wolf carving by Haida Master Carver Donavon Gates

Absolutely incredible !!! A rare find - this quality of carving is exceptional - there is no other one like it! Have a look at the images - they speaks for itself. Donavon just doesn't carve, he tells us a story with his art.

The panel is showing the Raven and the Moon - the Howling Wolf on the right, the Quarter Moon, with the Eagle (the Eagle's leg and foot is the Moon's chin) and the Beaver on top. Richly inlaid with Abalone. Donavon used only a light polish for this piece to enhance the deep and clean cuts. He started with a 2" thick piece of wood - and rounded/domed it - Once he finished the design - he started with really deep cuts - just think about all the hours and work it took to create a piece like this. 

This particular piece of art was carved out of Basswood, also called Tilia or Linden. (Tilia is a tree native throughout most Northern Hemisphere) The round was "domed" before carving. The darker spots in the quarter moon are natural knots

Measurements: 20" diameter, 2" thick
