Very interesting piece and latest design by the First Nation Artist Sarah Robertson
very strong and powerful expression, the cedar bark just adds to it and makes it even more outstanding. She used a thick piece of pine wood, stained and polished it to accentuate the natural grain of the wood. the cedar bark as well as the cedar rope was then added. Very deep cuts and nice sanded finish. Signed at the back, hanger already attached.
Measurements: 18" x 11" x 1 1/2" (46 x 28 x 4 cm) incl. the cedar bark
Meaning: The crooked Beak of Heaven is a mythical creature, part of the Hamatsa (Cannibal Dance Ceremonie) - it's one of the giant man eating birds.
