Huge Komokwa Mask, Chief of the Sea

by artists Randy Stiglitz, a master artist and member of the Coast Salish First Nations. He has many years of experience in this art and is just so very skilful and talented. Well known and highly sought after around the world. 

This piece of art proves the beautiful craftsmanship, so detailed and the expression is just mesmerizing! The face is adorned with rope, the mask itself is adorned with lots of cedar bark - just incredible. The painting is extremely clean and close to perfection. All throughout the face of the mask, the carving is done with so much love and attention to detail - every single character is carved in clean lines, Just have a look, I will let the images speak for themselves

Meaning: The Komokwa is a mythological creature, symbolizing wealth, healing power and is able to for see the future. The Komokwa or Kumukwe is of major importance in Kwaguilth mythology. He was the king of the undersea world, master and protector of the seals who were a symbol of wealth. His name means "wealthy one" and he ruled from a great rich house under the water. Many humans of legendary history attempted to reach this kingdom.
