Edwards, Connie
Connie Edwards was born on Penelakut Island and is a member of the Penelakut tribe, a small Coast Salish band off the East Coast of Vancouver Island known for their carving and fishing skills. Connie originally carved ceremonial talking sticks and rattles, however, as the family grew and carvings became sought after by tourists and locals, she began crafting wall plaques.
Her daughter, Dora, born in 1985 joined her and will be carrying on the family legacy of carving alongside her mother. The Edwards' carving style is greatly influenced by Herman Peter, a fellow Coast Salish carver.
