Good, Mel

Mel Good Jr. is a memeber of the Snuneymuxw Nation, originating in Nanaimo, a Harbour town on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. His dad, Mel Good, a master carver itself, is married to Cathy Alleck, also a master carver from the Snuneymuxw Nation (Nanaimo). Mel Good has taught their art to their children; Mel Good Jr,  Robin Good, Celestine Alleck. They are now grown and carry on their carving traditions.  This family of artists work mostly in yellow cedar with a dark and highly polished finish which brings out the deep shadows. Mel likes to use Abalone shell in his pieces - but they never use paint. His work is easy recognizable. .
