Joe, Jacob

Jacob Joe is a coast Salish artist and has been carving for 26 years. He has always been interested in carving watching his father, Jacob Joe Sr. carve as a young boy. For a few years Jacob apprenticed with master carver Simon Charlie for 5 years along with his grand uncle Abram Joe and cousin Harold Joe. Jacob Joe' carvings grace the walls of collectors from New York to New Zealand. Jacob stays true to the heritage of the Salish design. This style is quite unique to the south coastal areas of Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia. Among one of the many design’s rules Coast Salish design makes is that the inner and outer form is to be quite flowing, which can be seen in Jacob's work. Most of Jacob's pieces are available with abalone or copper inlay.
