Seward, Solomon

Solomon Seward, born on March 16, 1970 - is a accomplished and very well known and liked master of jewellery making. Solomon belongs to the Tsawataineuk band of the Kwakiutl that comes from Kingcome Inlet, just east of Vancouver Island, on the mainland coast. The seclusion of the Kwakiutl's many inlets and islands communities allowed Solomon's people to continue potlatching in secret during Canada's oppressive ban of the potlatch from 1885 until 1951.

He started at a very early age and is now working in this craft for over 40 years and it clearly shows in his works. He developed his very own and special style - always very intricate, each piece of his jewellery is a piece of art. He works with silver, gold and copper. Solomon likes to combine pieces, his signature pieces are the double silver pendants which he designed and perfected over the years.

Today his art draws attention and is recognized all over the world due to his superb quality. We feel privileged to present his works in our gallery and it is always such a pleasure to meet and chat with Solomon - a very kind and gentle soul, so highly talented and we are honoured that we can call him our friend.
