Simeon, Carl
Carl Simeon, born 1963 in Vancouver BC, is a well known and highly respected carver from the Kwakwaka'wakw First Nations, His family is originally from Cape Mudge, a village on the southwestern tip of Quadra Island, off the coast of Campbell River in British Columbia.
Carl began his carving career at the early age of fifteen and began working with his brother, Dwayne Simeon, at the age of nineteen. He has also received guidance from Haisla carver, Henry Robertson. He is known for his totem poles and masks and has worked on several large-scale projects with his brother and others. In February of 2008, Carl graduated from the Northwest Coast Jewellery Arts Program at the Native Education College in Vancouver, which was led by Kwakwaka’wakw/Haida artist, Dan Wallace.
