Smith, Bert
Bert Smith is a member of the Tlowitsis tribe of the Kwakwaka’wakw nation, Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada. He began carving in 1994, and now works out of the Hamatsa carving studio. Throughout his career, his teachers have included Bill Henderson, Junior Henderson, and Tom Hunt. His exceptional teachers and natural ability for carving have given him the opportunity to create many potlatch objects for his community. He is a very friendly and highly knowledgeable young man who clearly loves the art of carving in the traditional way. He delivers highest quality in every piece he's creating. His artwork is easy recognizable by the precision and clean carving and painting, using traditional colors. It was such a pleasure meeting and chatting with him. A very talented artist.
