Stunner!!!! Just think about how many hours, weeks and months the artist works on a piece like this - small, but a true GEM!!
SUN wall art carving by master artist Silas Coon from the Kwakwakaw' wakw First Nations of Kingcome Inlet, Pacific Northwest Indigenous Art at it's best. Silas is the only artist who is creating these kind of miniatures - they are HIGHLY sought after and collected all around the world
This piece is so vibrant, detailed, Silas really is an exceptionally talented artist. He puts so much love and attention to detail into his artwork, it's truly incredible. I love chatting with him and especially, seeing him at work. He's so patient and highly knowledgeable about the importance of the design, the history, the legends and the stories of his peoples.
In this little Jewel of art he inlaid (yes inlaid, not glued on top!) 50 (FIFTY!!)! separate little pieces of Abalone in the Sun's ray's the rim and the face. Each piece of wood is inlaid, fully hand carved, hand painted. The colors are vibrant and just add to the sparkle of the Abalone. This piece looks great in the black frame, as pictured (and the frame is included) - but it also looks fabulous without the frame.
Measurements: 9 1/2" diameter (Frame: 16 1/2" x 16 1/2")
