Another little gem by master artist Silas Coon from the Kwakiulth First Nations, specialized in the carving of Tribal miniatures. Silas was part of an exhibition of small carvings on Vancouver Island, where his carvings were presented together with carvings by Luke Marston, Valerie Morgan, Kevin Cranmer, Shawn Karpes and just a handful more. A very elite group of artists who's Tribal miniatures in wood are so highly desired, admired and collected all over the world.
EAGLE Totem Sculpture
Meaning in the artists own words: "Eagle and Chief Sculpture, and two small eagles on the claws, the chief wanted to transform into an eagle after he passed on"
Please have a look at the Eagle's head - it's looking to the left. That is very unusual, and very difficult to do. Usually these kind of carvings are looking straight ahead. But Silas is highly talented. Have a look at the inlays all around the piece, Silas is carving so clean and in such great detail, it's just beautiful to see. He used a black paint with a very slight sparkle in it and very vibrant colors all through the piece. It's marvelous!
