BEAR catching Salmon with Eagle on top, also catching Salmon - Mask
by artist Randy Stiglitz. member of the Coast Salish First Nations. He has many years of experience in this art and is just a very skillful and talented artist who is well known and highly collected and sought after around the world. The craftsmanship on this piece is astounding.
So creative, detailed and the expression is just mesmerizing! The eyes are inlaid with abalone, the EAGLE is on top of the Bear. marvelous carving, the face is adorned with rope, the mask itself is adorned with lots of cedar bark. The painting, done by Janice, Randy's wife, is extremely clean and close to perfection. Signed on the inside of the mask.
Measurements: 14" x 12" x 9" (36 cm x 31 cm x 23 cm)
Meaning: The Bear is a symbol for power, courage, physical strength and leadership. Warrior's e.g. are known to wear bear claw necklaces which meant protection. In Haida culture the Bear is referred to as "Elder Kinsman" and was treated like a high ranking guest.
