BEAR
hand carved, designed, inlaid and hand painted by master artist Silas Coon from Alert Bay, a member of the Kwakwaka'wakw First Nation.
Just so incredibly detailed. Again, Silas spent so many hours and days on each piece. Just have a look at all the inlays, 17 in total all over the body of the bear. As usual, Silas used pine for the piece. He loves to use pine because once it's stained and polished, it really shows off the grain of the wood which only adds to the beauty. He adorned the bear with rope and signed at the back. It's made and already prepared for wall hanging.
Measurements: 11" x 5 1/2" x 1/2" (28 cm x 14 cm x 1.5 cm)
Meaning: The Bear is a symbol for power, courage, physical strength and leadership. Warrior's e.g. are known to wear bear claw necklaces which meant protection. In Haida culture the Bear is referred to as "Elder Kinsman" and was treated like a high ranking guest.
