Another incredible piece by master artist Brian Bob, a member of the Nuu-chah-nulth (Nootka) First Nation with relations to the Coast Salish Nations.
Massive piece of art: RAVEN with Moon and stars
Gorgeous hand carving and expression. The Raven is shown catching the moon. Brian used Sitka Spruce for this piece which is really clean, stain applied which accentuates the grain of the wood. As always, very clean lines of carving - AND, it's inlaid with Abalone which makes the piece even more outstanding. Clearly made to impress by a master of this art. It's carved in the front, made and prepared for wall hanging, signed at the back.
Measurements: 38" x 9" x 1 1/2"
Meaning: The Raven is basically known to be the transformer, trickster and creator. In the Kwakwaka'wakw culture the Raven is known as the messenger of the sky and famous for being a somewhat mischievous glutton. He's always out to please himself and to have a good time but he is also known to mourn loved ones. He's very adventurous.
