Exceptional creation by a master of this art! Have a look at this one - beautiful
Large Grizzly BEAR caught Salmon
Exquisite mask by artist Randy Stiglitz. member of the Coast Salish First Nations. He has so many years of experience in this art and is just a very skillful and talented artist who is well known and highly collected and sought after around the world. The craftsmanship on this piece is astounding. Randy is working together with his Cree First Nation partner Janice Morin - a fabulous team! It's just such a pleasure to work with both of them and every time they call, I'm really excited and can't wait to see what is coming my way. To "catch" the salmon like this in a solid piece of wood is truly difficult and only a master of this art is able to do this.
So creative, detailed and the expression is just mesmerizing! The eyes are inlaid with copper, all around marvelous carving, the face is adorned with rope. The painting, done by Janice, Randy's wife, is extremely clean and close to perfection. Signed on the inside of the mask by both artists.
Measurements: 17" tall x 13" wide x 12" deep
Meaning: The Bear is a symbol for power, courage, physical strength and leadership. Warrior's e.g. are known to wear bear claw necklaces which meant protection. In Haida culture the Bear is referred to as "Elder Kinsman" and was treated like a high ranking guest.
