Ceremonial Raven Dance Rattle with Bentwood Box and Sculls - by Coast Salish Indigenous artist Francis Horne.
Please have a look and listen to the video's I'm providing. Francis is telling the story of the Rattle himself in one video. In the second video, he is singing parts of the Raven song and demonstrating how the rattle is used.
He used cedar, acrylic paint and wax finish.
It shows the Raven in 3D on top of the Bentwood box which has sculls carved out on both sides. The Raven is fully moveable, the eye of the Raven is inlaid with Abalone which gives it a very intense expression. The form and perfection displayed on the Bentwood box is quite incredible - only a master of this art can accomplish this. The handle of the rattle also shows a Raven, again, inlaid with abalone. The rattle is painted in a "washed" black with green accents - looking very powerful. Francis added a custom made stand especially for this rattle, painted in the same colors, also hand carved.
Measurements: Rattle itself: 14" x 7 1/2" x 4 1/2", base is 12" x 3 1/2", total height when in base: 11"
