Coastal Cutthroat Trout - with fly (!)

by Indigenous artist Shane Flood Baker from the Squamish Nation on Vancouver Island, British Columbia's Northwest Coast

In the artist's words: "Cutthroat Trout is the most closely related to Rainbow Trout and Steelhead, there are three main forms of them: sea-run, stream residents and lake residents. The fish in the picture and the fish my carving was modeled after is a lake resident version. The lake residents tend to have the most potential to get really big"

Great catch and superb carving, Shane !! Thank you!

This is a new and very unique design and choice in color. truly stunning, Shane captured the "natural" colors of the fish when swimming in different light reflections. He also knife finished - please have a close look to appreciate the craftsmanship and superb quality of this piece. And to add a little extra, did you see the little fly in the Cutthroats' mouth?

Measurements: 25" x 7" x 1"

Meaning: Fish, Salmon, Trout etc. symbolizes prosperity, renewal and fertility. They are one of the most important and highest respected animals of all since they have been the primary food source from the beginning of time to the Northwest Coast First Nations.
