Another absolutely fabulous piece of Indigenous Art just arrived in our Gallery.
Raven Mask, articulated, decorated with cedar bark, by Coast Salish Indigenous artist Randy Stiglitz who works together with his wife Janice Morin (Cree Nation)
The Raven is articulated and makes a really nice clapping sound.
The Raven is decorated with a large cedar bark skirt and adorned with cedar rope. Eyes and beak are inlaid with Abalone. The painting is as usual just close to perfection, very powerful. The carving and the expression of the trickster Raven is marvelous. This is superb quality. The mask is prepared for wall hanging. Signed by both on the inside, dated 2024. Randy carved, Janice painted. Randy's biography is below, please also check out Janice's biography, it's provided under the "artist" tab. What a fabulous team!!!
Measurements: 18" long beak, 7" high, 8" wide (not including the cedar bark), total height incl. cedar bark is 27"
Meaning: The Raven is known to be the transformer, trickster and creator. In the Kwakwaka'wakw culture the Raven is known as the messenger of the sky and famous for being a somewhat mischievous glutton. He's always out to please himself and to have a good time. He's very adventurous.
