SUN Mask by Kwakwakaw'wakw/Kwakiulth First Nations, Indigenous artist Chief David Mungo Knox.
Chief David Knox hand carved this sun out of beautiful red old cedar, signed at the back. The rays are decorated with copper and the traditional cedar bark, very clean painting all around, vibrant color - just a highly decorative and authentic piece of true Indigenous Art from a Vancouver Island native artist direct. David is very well known all across the globe and his masks are highly sought after. He's a highly respected Chief. He pays a lot of attention to details and expression, always keeping it traditional, always keeping the History and stories of his peoples in his mind. The variation on sizes in the rays makes it even more beautiful. Rays will be taken off for safe shipping, easy to screw back on.
The sun is present in most ceremonies and celebrations and potlaches, just so important - as it is to everybody on this planet.
Measurements: total: 36" x 32" x 7", face is 12" x 10"
Meaning: The Sun symbolizes warmth, comfort, light and life. It owes healing powers and brings peace to the world. Released from a box by the Raven, the Sun Chief inhabited the sky and it was believed he could be reached by climbing a chain of arrows.
