This new Heron just arrived in our Gallery. Charles created another elegant and gorgeous piece of Indigenous art from the North native American First Nations
HERON on SALMON base by Indigenous artist Charles George Sr., a member of the Heiltsuk First Nations from Bella Bella.
Beautiful expression - the title of the piece is so appropriate: Graceful Patience
Showing the Heron, waiting to catch a fish. The details are really nice, the heron is carved and painted on both sides, Vibrant, almost metalic blue color, in the heron's body you can see the whale symbol, even the base which is depicting the salmon is so detailed. Both pieces, the heron and the salmon are fully hand carved and hand painted. Signed underneath the base.
Measurements: 20" tall, 5 1/2" wide, 1" deep, the salmon base is 12" x 5 1/2"
Meaning: In the native culture of the Pacific Northwest Coast First Nations, the Heron is known to be a “lucky charm” for successful fishing. He is a symbol of grace, elegance, patience and good luck. At the same time Heron’s are known to be loner and in some tribes are associated with weakness for flattery and vanity
