Exceptionally beautiful piece of Art by Randy Stiglitz, a Coast Salish First Nation artist

Mesmerizing Tzonakwa Mask

Mosquito design, truly just a wonderful expression, large piece. Please have a close look at the images provided to appreciate the details and the deep carving lines. Have a look at the forehead, the depth of the eyes, the pronounced cheek bones. Tsonakwa has ears which are also richly carved - Randy truly puts all his love into his art. The details in the painting are incredible. You don't see Mosquito's that often - especially not in this quality and strength.

The Mosquito is used as a clan crest in some Northwest Coast tribes, such as the Haida and Gitxsan, and can sometimes be found carved on totem poles. The Cree tribe also has a Mosquito Dance among their tribal dance traditions, in which the dancers were traditionally pricked with pins. Randy used Alder wood, decorated the face with lots of black horsehair. Such an incredible piece of Indigenous Art!!!

Randy is working together with his partner Janice Morin. Janice is an accomplished artist herself and a member of the Cree Nation. Randy and Janice are working together for more than 30 years.

Meaning: Like other biting insects, mosquitoes are viewed as enemies of humankind by many tribes, and some legends feature blood-sucking or man-eating monsters transformed into mosquitoes and biting flies after their deaths.

Measurements: 14" x 14" x 7" - it's huge!!!!!
