Another absolutely fabulous piece of Indigenous Art just arrived in our Gallery. - So much work and love went into this piece of art:

Superb quality: Raven and fully sculptured Frog

Fantastic, hand carved Mask, decorated with cedar bark and white horsehair, by Coast Salish Indigenous artist Randy Stiglitz who works together with his partner Janice Morin (Cree Nation)

The painting is as usual just close to perfection, very powerful. The carving and the expression of the trickster Raven is marvelous. This truly is outstanding quality. The mask is prepared for wall hanging and of course signed on the inside.

Measurements: 14" long beak, 10" high, 7" wide

Meaning: The Raven is known to be the transformer, trickster and creator. In the Kwakwaka'wakw culture the Raven is known as the messenger of the sky and famous for being a somewhat mischievous glutton. He's always out to please himself and to have a good time. He's very adventurous. The Frog is a very important Symbol in the Northwest Coast Art and Culture. Since he is living in two worlds, water and land, the Frog is revered for his adaptability, knowledge and power to traverse worlds and inhabit both, the natural and the supernatural. Frogs are used by Shamans as spirit helpers who provides the voice of the people. Frog's songs are believed to contain divine power and magic. When a frog is touching his tongue with another creature (which is often shown in Native Art) it represents the exchange of knowledge and power.
