Sarah just brought this beautiful piece - solid, large and thick piece of yellow cedar.
Wolf Totem by Kwakiulth First Nation artist Sarah Robertson, originating from Kingcome Inlet, Canada's Pacific Northwest Coast.
Another gorgeous piece of art by a First Nation artist with many years of experience. The carving lines are precise, clean and deep, so very detailed. Sarah, who's working with and helping her father Alfred Robertson a lot, put all her love into this piece. She carved it extremely deep and added more details, with that, finding and showing off her talent, her own style of carving.
She stained it in a light brown, still showing the beautiful grain of the cedar. AND she didn't sand this piece, she knife-finished it, which is adding a lot to the work then went into it. It's signed underneath the base.
Measurements: 14" tall, 4"x4" sculpture, 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" base, even the base is knife-finished... have a look
Meaning: The Wolf represents loyalty, strong family ties, good communication, education, understanding and intelligence. Of all land animals, the Wolf has the strongest supernatural powers and is the most accomplished hunter. The Wolf is a very social and communicative creature; he uses body movement, touch and sound.
