Very detailed and beautiful piece of authentic Indigenous Art, coming direct from the artist
Haida Chief Raven TALKING STICK in base with frog sculpture – Rattle!
by master artist Donavon Gates, originating from Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte), a member of the Old Masset band.
Long Beak Raven watching 3 eggs, with the little blind baby’s inside, ready to hatch.
Leather beaded hand band. Even the base is carved and it fit’s perfectly. Please have a look at the little frog – lots of work in every detail of this piece.
Donavon started his career many years ago as Argillite carver - later changed to wood. You can clearly see his expertise by looking at the details in his artwork. He used beautiful cedar for this piece, stained and polished to accentuate the natural grain. Donavon signed the stick with his carved Initials.
Measurements: 62" x 3” x 2 ½”, base 14” x 7 ½”
Meaning: These tall and large Chief talking sticks are used by Chiefs only. The Talking stick is a powerful communication tool which ensures a code of conduct of respect during meetings is followed. ONLY the person holding the stick (for members of the tribe the stick is usually shorter) is designated as having the right to speak while all others must listen quietly and respectfully. These talking sticks are used in many Indigenous cultures in many ancient ceremonies and meetings and are still used today
