What a beautiful piece of art by Indigenous artist Bear (Doug) Horne, son of Doug LaFortune, member of the Tsawout First Nation (Coast Salish territory), Pacific Northwest Coast on Vancouver Island.
Leaping Orca Killer Whale - look at the expression - I think it's a sullen or grumpy baby calf or teenager :o).... just adorable!!
Designed, hand carved, hand painted red cedar, signed and dated at the back - superb craftsmanship! Made and prepared for wall hanging (Bear left some pencil sketching's at the back of the piece, they could be removed, but I think it gives it more character - so I'll leave it up to you to remove them. I'll be showing picture of the back
Beautiful Gem! I really love this piece of a leaping Baby Orca, so cute! The beautiful color of the cedar is giving a great contrast to the black paint. Outstanding and clearly recognizable as one of Bear's pieces of art. Signed underneath.
Measurements: 28" x 13" x 1"
Meaning: The killer whale is a symbol for romance and harmony as Whales mate for life. The Whale is very family oriented and known to travel in large groups, never to be alone.
