Excellent craftsmanship, beautiful design and very deep carving lines
BEAR by Indigenous artist Bear (Doug) Horne, a member of the Tsawaout / Coast Salish Nation, coming from a large Family of artists.
Another piece, easy recognizable as Bear's artwork. Look at the lines, the expression of the bear is playful and refined. It's just amazing how Doug always masters to give an elegant and yet powerful expression into his pieces. This is highly decorative and makes every room. It has a hanger already attached so all you need is a nail in your wall. Doug signed and dated the piece in the back. The minor discolorations are natural and part of the pine - giving it great character.
Measurements: 16" diameter, 1 1/2" thick
Meaning: The Bear is a symbol for power, courage, physical strength and leadership. Warriors e.g. are known to wear bear claw necklaces which meant protection. In Haida culture the Bear is referred to as "Elder Kinsman" and was treated like a high-ranking guest.
