Brad just brought us another absolutely gorgeous, hand carved piece of art:
Bear Chief - red cedar with copper inlays by Bradley Joseph Jr., a member of the Coast Salish - Squamish Nation.
What a wonderful piece. Fully hand carved, please check out the Chief's face, the carving and expression is marvelous. The vibrant painting just looks fabulous on this beautiful red cedar. Chief is wearing the bear crown and Eagle feather blanket. Chief looks very proud and powerful. It's carved on the front, signature at the back. So much love and many hours of work went into this piece. Made and prepared for wall hanging.
Measurements: 28" x 5 1/4" x 3/4"
Meaning: The Bear is a symbol for power, courage, physical strength and leadership. Warriors e.g. are known to wear bear claw necklaces which meant protection. In Haida culture the Bear is referred to as "Elder Kinsman" and was treated like a high-ranking guest.
