BEAR Yadan - (Rattle) on Paw base by Indigenous artist Kevin Cranmer from Alert Bay, with ancestry to Namgis, Mamalilikala, Kwagiutl, Da’naxda’xw, Lawit’sis and Tlingit (Alaska).
Fully hand carved, hand painted, stunningly detailed, inlaid with Abalone. Beautiful expression and strong sound (see video please). The painting is so close to perfect – everything on this piece is. Please have a look at how the handle is “wrapped”, the carving lines, really superb craftsmanship!
Kevin mainly is creating pieces for his family and for use in ceremonies, also working on large projects, exhibitions and Totem poles. This is a great piece for every serious lover or collector of authentic Indigenous art from the Pacific Northwest Coast.

Meaning: The Bear is a symbol for power, courage, physical strength and leadership. Warriors e.g. are known to wear bear claw necklaces which meant protection. In Haida culture the Bear is referred to as "Elder Kinsman" and was treated like a high-ranking guest.
