Beautiful piece of authentic Indigenous Art
Fully hand carved and hand painted by Kwakiutl artist Nancy Dawson, living on the Pacific Northwest Coast, Vancouver Island, Canada.
Eagle Mask
This mask is truly attractive. It's one of Nancy's earlier pieces of art - excellent carving, very clean painting in traditional colors. Nancy carved the mask in 1997. Beautiful expression. Prepared for wall hanging, signed at the back. She used red cedar and it aged and darkened really nice.
The mask is in excellent condition, the cedar bark adorning the face has also darkened and shows some minor loss, same with the small feathers attached (turkey). It really shows a lot of character, a radiant and wonderful piece of art. It's just really nice to see a female artist and Nancy just told me, seeing the mask again brings back great memories. She very much enjoyed carving it, but two years later she started engraving silver jewelry.
