Another fantastic piece of hand carved wooden native art - finest quality, masterfully carved by Donavon Gates from the Haida Nation, a member of the Old Massett Band. 

Leaping Killer Whale with Spirit Eagle in Dorsal Fin and Seal

Red cedar with beautiful grain, hand carved, so very detailed. Donavon spent 26 days working full time on this piece. Please have a close look at the depth in the carving. Donavon didn't use any machines, he started with a 1 1/2" thick piece of wood and worked it down to 1". Sanded and knife finished. I try to show the depth in the images. Great craftsmanship. Signed with carved Initials at the back. Prepared for wall hanging. Polished with Bee's wax. Beautiful piece!

Measurements: 24" x 11 1/2" x 1"

Meaning: The killer whale is a symbol for romance and harmony as Whales mate for life. The Whale is very family oriented and known to travel in large groups, never to be alone. They symbolize great luck and happiness, community and protection. They are known to always be working together, taking care of each other and to always helping and protecting each other
