Massive  59" (5 feet) Northwest Coast carving of a Sisiutl by Mervyn Child

Absolutely incredible masterpiece by Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations master carver Mervyn Child. Very large, clean and balanced carving of a Sisiutl (Sea Monster/Sea Serpent) in red cedar, beautiful traditional use of colours, very strong expression.

The Sisiutl is one of the most powerful crests, and mythological creatures in the mythology of the Kwakwaka’wakw, Nuu-chah-nulth, and various other Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest, and figures prominently in their art, dances and songs. Sisiutl is the god of warrior invincibility, a magic war-canoe that can go underground and guardian of the house of the sky people.

Measurements: Width: 59", Height: 25"
