Beautiful little piece
Hand carved wooden SPOON / LADLE
RAVEN design, with little stand by Haida artist Donavon Gates from the Old Massett Band, Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte)
Many details added, beautiful carving. Donavon told me he really had fun working on this one. He added a little bit of paint to accentuate the Raven's head. It's sanded close to perfect and comes with a little hand made, wooden stand. He told me that sometimes large artworks (like a large totem he is currently working on) takes a lots of energy out of him, so he carves these little gems in between, just to get the joy and energy back :o)
It's a great addition to any art collections - or, it also would make a great gift for any lover of Indigenous art.
Measurements: 12" x 2 3/4" x 1" (Spoon), stand is 7 1/2" x 4"
Meaning: Known in legends the raven is the one who released the sun, moon, and stars; discovered man in a clamshell; brought the salmon and the water; and taught man how to fish and hunt.
