Superb piece of hand woven basketry - REALLY RARE and almost impossible to find in this size these days
LARGE hand woven BOTTLE (Nuuh-chah-nulth/Ditidath First Nation)
the size of this piece is truly amazing and very difficult to find. Just think about all the long hours and work the artist put into this piece. It's an older piece of work, the colors have faded a little, but you can still clearly see the whale and canoe designs - so detailed and so beautiful. The weaving is very tight, the lid fit's just perfect.
Since these pieces are never signed, it's difficult to say who the artist is, it might have been woven by one of the McKay Family members from the Nitinath/Ditidath First Nation, but I can't confirm. Estimated age would be 1950's/60's.
Measurements: 12 1/2" tall, 5 1/2" diameter (32 x 14 cm)
