Thunderbird with Kolus Head dress/Mask
So much work went into this piece. Have a close look please. Hand carved, designed, hand painted, decorated with copper and signed by Randy Stiglitz - A world wide well known and highly sought after artist from the Pacific Northwest Coast of BC and a member of the Coast Salish First Nations.
These head dresses are used in ceremonies and worn on top of the head while dancing. It's just a fabulous example of true Indigenous art. The painting is close to perfect, Randy used many pieces of copper to decorate this piece throughout. He also added traditional cedar bark and adorned it with cedar rope. The carving quality is outstanding, as is the expression - just very powerful!
Measurements: 17" long x 11" high x 10" wide (43.5 cm x 28 cm x 25.5 cm)
Meaning: The Thunderbird symbolizes supernatural power and is believed to be the dominating force behind all of natures doings. It's a mythical creature and only the most prestigious and powerful Chiefs are allowed to have the Thunderbird as a crest especially among the Kwagiulth, Nuu-Chah-Nulth and Coast Salish people.
