Now this is a very special treat....bold, powerful and mesmerizing! Please have a look at this masterpiece by John Henry Hunt, a member of the Kwakiulth First Nations from Vancouver Island, BC’s Pacific Northwest Coast.
Mask Title: Dancing Wolves – showing the Owl’s face with the frog on top, holding the blue moon, surrounded by 4 wolves
Just think about the skill it takes to see this in and bring it out of a solid chunk of wood. Please have a close look at this piece to appreciate the details in carving and design. Cedar, fully hand carved, hand painted, designed and signed by an artist who clearly loves this art and spent many months working on it.
John’s attention to detail and creativity is just unbeatable. The painting so powerful and close to perfection. The vibrant variations of blue combined with the black – masterfully done. The wolves are kept natural, showing off the beautiful cedar he used. I’ll let the images speak for themselves. You just won’t find another piece like this – not many artists are able to pull this off – it takes so much talent, patience, knowledge of history, legends and clearly an eye for design.
The mask is prepared for wall hanging, signed at the back. It also looks great showcased on a fireplace mantle or entrance table. Just a Whow-piece!
