Gorgeous piece - this is one of Bear's earlier pieces of art, dated approx. 20 years ago....
Black RAVEN Sculpture by Bear (Doug) Horne from the Tsawout/Coast Salish First Nations of Vancouver Island.
It's very easy recognizable as one of his arts - as always, elegant and very powerful. Old piece of red cedar, showing aging/hairlines in the cedar and patina, some water marks which take nothing away from the piece since they are only visible on the back (have a close look at the images please). Bear painted it in deep black which looks fabulous on this nice, darkened and old piece of red cedar.
The carving is superb! Just look at the expression!
Measurements: 23" tall, 10" wide, 6" deep.
Meaning: The Raven is known to be the transformer, trickster and creator. In the Kwakwaka'wakw culture the Raven is known as the messenger of the sky and famous for being a somewhat mischievous glutton. He's always out to please himself and to have a good time. He's very adventurous.
