What an incredible piece of Art - I'll be adding lots of images, but they don't do it justice...

OWL MASK, designed, hand carved, hand painted and signed by Indigenous artists Randy Stiglitz and Janice Morin (Coast Salish and Cree Nation) from the Pacific Northwest Coast of British Columbia.  

As always, superb craftsmanship. they just pay so much attention to details. You truly can see his love for the art. Traditional cedar bark added, very clean painting, very clean and deep carving lines, - and - I just love the expression, so fabulous. Pointy ears, this is a large mask. Signed at the back by both artists, prepared for wall hanging. Have a look....

Measurements: 14" tall, 13" wide, 8" deep

Meaning: The Owl is associated with the souls of ancestors and are viewed with highest respect. They symbolize wisdom, intuition and prophecies and sacred knowledge. The story goes that children have to be kept inside at night and are told not to cry too much because otherwise the owl may carry them away. Sometimes owls are said to carry messages or deliver supernatural warnings to people. On the Northwest Coast, the owl is often used as a totem pole crest. It's also very often part of dances among the tribal dance traditions.
