OWL and Mouse wall art carving

Abalone inlaid - such unbelievably detailed carving by Haida master artist Donavon Gates from Haida Gwaii, a member of the Old Massett band.

Have a close look to appreciate the quality please. The owl shows a little mouse in it's belly, did you see the whiskers? The details in Donavon's works always floor me. The face of the owl shows such an intense expression, the carving on the face alone took weeks to finish. Made and prepared for wall hanging, signed with carved Initials at the back. New and marvelous condition. Stained and polished. 

Measurements: 24" x 10" x 1/2"

Meaning: The Owl is associated with the souls of ancestors and are viewed with high respect. They symbolize wisdom, intuition and prophecies and sacred knowledge.  

Legend: Owls are very often seen as bogeyman. The story goes that children have to be kept inside at night and are told not to cry too much because otherwise the owl may carry them away. Sometimes owls are said to carry messages from the ancestors or deliver supernatural warnings to people. On the Northwest Coast, the owl is often used as a totem pole crest. It's also very often part of dances among the tribal dance traditions. Hearing owls hooting is considered an unlucky omen.
