Another absolutely stunning piece of art by master artist Donavon Gates, a member of the Old Massett Band from Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands)

Thunderbird - on base with Moon carving - perfect for your Desk or Fireplace mantle

Hand carved in such great detail and clearly with a lot of love. Also depicting human and salmon egg - in the base he carved and inlaid a moon - please have a close look. Richly inlaid with Abalone, VERY precise carving. Please have a close look to appreciate the quality. Donavon was working with Argillite for many years, and you can just see the skill and talent he has for this art. So meticulous, truly perfection. He spends so much time of every single piece. The expression is elegant yet powerful. Dark brown stain applied and polished. He signed underneath the base with his carved Initials. Just a really excellent piece of true Haida art and, simply beautiful! Have a look, as always I'm providing many images.

Measurements: 12" high, base is 7 1/2" x 5 1/2"

Meaning: The Thunderbird symbolizes supernatural power and is believed to be the dominating force behind all of nature’s doings. It’s a mythical creature and only the most prestigious and powerful Chiefs are allowed to have the Thunderbird as a crest especially among the Kwagiulth, Nuu-Chah-Nulth and Coast Salish people.
