Incredibly detailed and very unique piece of art from the Haida Nation
Haida Grizzly BEAR, hand carved, designed and signed by Haida First Nation artist Donavon Gates.
Donavon also is a master in Argillite carving and you can clearly see it even in this piece.
He used red cedar for this wall panel. It's so detailed with a lot of attention on expression. He used 2 different colors in the stain which makes it even more outstanding. The carving lines are exceptionally clean and deep. He spent a lot of time on this piece and as always, delivered a superb quality which is difficult to find.
Measurements: 24 1/2" x 10" x 1/2"
Meaning: The Bear is a symbol for power, courage, physical strength and leadership. Warrior's e.g. are known to wear bear claw necklaces which meant protection. In Haida culture the Bear is referred to as "Elder Kinsman" and was treated like a high ranking guest.
