Another beautiful piece by Indigenous artist Bear (Doug) Horne from the Tsawout / Coast Salish Nation
Spirit RAVEN
Easy recognizable as one of Bear's pieces of art - very powerful. Please have a close look at the carving on this piece of art. The depth of the carving lines is exceptional. You can also see the knife marks, so much work. All fully hand carved, no machines used! The red cedar is 2" thick, very impressive piece of wood with lots of character. The painting is superb - I just love the elegant white and black - still showing off the beautiful wood. Wonderful expression.
Contemporary and traditional at the same time. Signed and dated the back, prepared for wall hanging. Simply beautiful!!!
Measurements: 30" diameter x 2"
Meaning: The Raven is known to be the transformer, trickster and creator. In the Kwakwaka'wakw culture the Raven is known as the messenger of the sky and famous for being a somewhat mischievous glutton. He's always out to please himself and to have a good time. He's very adventurous. One of the many legends is telling the story of the Raven, who stole the sun
