Henderson, Ernie

The late Ernie Henderson, a member of the Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations (Laichwiltach/Nakwaxda’x culture) and the son of Chief Sam Henderson who was regarded amongst the chiefs to be a keeper of the culture, raised in the old potlatch ways who passed the traditional ways and understanding down to each of his 18 children. Ernie was surrounded by a large family of master artists like Bill and Mark Henderson, just to name a few. He passed the traditional way of carving, the respect and the understanding and importance on to his son, Greg who also today is a very talented and known artist – keeping the tradition alive.
