Harry T. Williams, GONE TO SOON!! We just learned that our friend Harry passed away - he was such a gentle and kind soul - our heart and thoughts are with his family and we will miss him)

born in 1960, lives on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. He is a member of the Ditidaht Tribe and part of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations whose lands are located in the Barkley Sound region on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Today, Huu-ay-aht citizens primarily reside around the villages of Nitinaht and Anacla, the Nation’s principal communities close to Bamfield and Port Alberni.

His Great-great grandfather was Sam Williams, his grandfather Wilson Williams and his father Harry. Sam and his son Wilson were very well known master carvers in the Pacific Northwest, known mainly for their incredibly fine model totems. Wilson trained and mentored Harry Sr., who became a well known carver in his own right. Because Harry T.'s father Harry Sr. passed away very early (1972), Harry T. was only 12 years old, he was taught by non family artists, such as Dave Nahant, Derald Scoular and Mark Mickey, who are all prominent carvers in their own right. Harry T. did not become a totem carver like the rest of his prominent family. His carvings consist of various items such as masks and plaques, and the odd time a totem poles. He prefers to use paint and varnish on his pieces.
