Fabulous Ceremonial THUNDERBIRD PADDLE by First Nations artist Sarah Robertson from Kingcome Inlet, British Columbia's Northwest Coast.

hand carved, hand painted cedar paddle. The carving is as always fabulous, clearly done by an artist who loves her art. Every time I meet Sarah, she is surprising me with new designs and new ideas. Also, you can clearly see her experience - the lines are getting cleaner and cleaner, the painting is close to perfection and she clearly has a fabulous eye for design while keeping tradition and history in mind. 

Hand painted in simple black and red. Carved on one side, signed at the back.

Measurements: 36" x 5 1/2" x 1" 

Meaning: The Thunderbird symbolizes supernatural power and is believed to be the  dominating force behind all of natures doings. It's  a mythical creature and only the most prestigious and powerful Chiefs are allowed to have the Thunderbird as a crest especially among the Kwagiulth, Nuu-Chah-Nulth and Coast Salish people.
