Another superb masterpiece!!! Have a look at the images, please - they speak for themselves
Eagle Moon Mask by our late friend John Livinston, adopted member of the Kwakiulth First Nation and a true master of this art!
Such an incredible piece of art. John's pieces of art show so much depth, they are so powerful and mesmerizing - the traditional color on this piece is just fantastic, the rim is fully carved, very detailed and clean carving lines . The rim is depicting the Eagle in front view, with the face on top, the wings on both sides and the claws and tail at the bottom. Then, please have a look at the Face Mask in the middle - the mask itself is so powerful and the eyes are truly mesmerizing - they look right back at you - very powerful expression and presence -
Measurements: 36" diameter
Meaning: Moon masks were particularly powerful masks that held the supernatural connections between the natural and human worlds; gifts from the sky and the yearly cycles of weather, the arrival of salmon and berries and stories of historical events that shaped the world. Moon masks were associated with chiefs and shamans. The central face is a human emerging from an animal, in this case the Eagle. A guardian and helper of the moon.
