Northern Crest Society Man - Mask
Unique and fabulous mask by our dear late friend Chief TONY HUNT from the T'saxis Community in Fort Rupert, Vancouver Island, British Columbia's Pacific Northwest Coast, Canada.
Among the many honours awarded to Chief Hunt outside his traditional culture are an Honorary Doctorate of Law from the Royal Roads University and Citations of Merit from the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. The Order of British Columbia, two additional Honorary Doctorates, the Commonwealth Medal of Honor, as well as the Victoria BC Citizen of the Year 2011. Chief Hunt has been presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and has given her three works of art. Please take the time and read his biography provided below - it's VERY impressive and explains the importance!!! Tony was fluent in his native Kwak'wala language, which was taught to him by his grandfather, legendary Chief Mungo Martin. Tony's father was Chief Henry Hunt. His son, famous artist Tony Hunt Jr., who sadly passed away 6 months before Chief Tony.
Very rich and vibrant. Traditional carving, this really is a piece that shouldn’t be missing in your collection. Hand painted in very clean lines, very vibrant colors, very powerful. Chief Tony spent many hours on this piece. It was sadly one of his last masks he ever made. Chief Tony used red cedar and adorned the mask with black horsehair.
